Hornsea Town 1st X1 playing in Division 1 of the Humber Premier League have got off to the perfect start, winning all of their opening five league fixtures. Results were as follows:-
4 – 2 v Howden, home. 5 – 4 v Hall Road Rangers reserves, away. 2 – 1 v Walkington, home. 5 – 0 v Hull United, away. 1-0 v LIV Supplies, home.
They have also progressed to the 2nd round of the Premier League Cup sponsored by Whiteheads of Hornsea, although they made hard work defeating Hall Road Rangers reserves on penalties, 5-3. After the match finished 2 – 2 with Hornsea squandering a 2 goal lead, but Hornsea goalkeeper, James Greensides, made a crucial penalty save in the shoot out ensuring Hornsea’s place in round 2.
This was also Hornsea Town’s vice president’s day which welcomed former players including Chris Finnigan and Ron Newey. Despite several other potential vice-presidents being unavailable to attend it was still a very enjoyable occasion.
Saturday 1st October sees Town away to Bridlington Sports Club in the first round of this season’s Senior County
Cup Competition.
Town 2nds have not had a good a start playing in Division 1 of the East Riding County League but are optimistic they can turn things around after three defeats.
The Sunday League team have opened with a league defeat but victory in their league cup, whilst the veterans started their season with a comprehensive victory with 9 – 0 with Rick Davis netting six of them.
