Due to postponements they had to wait a long time but in the end it was worth it as Hornsea Town secured the title of Humber Premier League Division 1 Champions with a 3-1 win away at Howden on Saturday 22nd April. Hornsea took an early lead but were pegged back with a penalty from Howden. Although dominating the game, they then missed a series of chances but with their new found confidence and composure they held their nerve and the winning goals finally arrived courtesy of Alex Sherwood and Jez Longley (2). Town are now aiming for an unprecedented treble with the Tanton Cup and the final of the Country Cup still to come. East Riding County Football Association Senior Country Cup Final 2017 Hornsea Town v Walkington Wednesday 17 May At ERCFA Roy West Centre Inglemire Lane, Hull Kick Off 7pm The Tanton Cup The Hornsea & District Hospital War Memorial Challenge Cup, more popularly known as the Tanton Cup (after P.C. Tanton Esq. who donated the trophy) is one of the oldest football cup competitions in the East Riding.  2017 will be its 94th anniversary year. It is competed for by local football clubs from North Holderness and still remains a popular competition amongst local players and spectators.  Hornsea Town are the current cup holders.   The new President for the competition is Dave (Dixie) Dean.  Many thanks go the retiring President Dave Brocklebank, who along with committee members Stuart Kemp, Phil Ashcroft and Ian McLane, has kept this grand old competition going. The Tanton Cup had historically been run in aid of the Hornsea Cottage Hospital.  The funds from the competition went towards buying daily papers for the patients and occasionally extras such as a TV for the Day Room.  Unfortunately the hospital ward is currently closed. At this season’s AGM the clubs voted to again support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance so we are trying to again raise as much as we can for this worthy Yorkshire based charity.  In total during the last five seasons we have raised £1,500 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (www.yaa.org.uk), £1000 for Help for Heroes charity (www.helpforheroes.org.uk) and £500 The Alzheimer’s Society(http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/). Thanks once again to the ERCFA for sanctioning this year’s competition and for Whitehead’s Fish & Chips for once again sponsoring the competition.   This season sees a slight change in the format with the teams competing in two groups and the group winners and their runners up going on to compete in the semi-finals.  The Groups and fixtures for the Tanton Cup are now set up on the Full Time system at (http://full-time.thefa.com/Index.do?league=305885507)or search for FA Full Time and enter Tan in the website’s search box.   The fixtures are based around outstanding league fixtures in the ERCFA Cup Competitions, Humber Premier League and East Riding County League.
