Solid Start for Seagulls

Following their promotion to the Humber Premier League having won the Division 1 title last season, Hornsea Town have had a busy pre-season training, playing five competitive friendly matches in readiness for the new season which started on Saturday, 19th August with a good point away to Westella & Willerby who have recently come down from the Northern Counties. This was followed up with a great home win against hedon Rangers. Tuesday 22nd August: Humber Premier League- Hornsea Town 4 – 2 Hedon Rangers. (Jordan Holmes, Jez Longley, Trevor Brooks, Chris Walker) It’s four points from two games for the Seasiders in the Humber Premier as the lads pick up a big win at home to Hedon Rangers. After a goalless first half Town took the lead twice in the second only to be pegged back both times. Two goals later in the match saw Town claim a deserved victory heading into another key home game this coming Saturday against Beverley Town. Saturday 19th August: Humber Premier League- Westella & Willerby 1 – 1 Hornsea Town. (Ed Griffiths) The Seasiders had the majority of the play but a well drilled Westella side frustrated by getting men behind the ball fast, stopping Hornsea creating chances. Willerby took the lead in the first half against the run of play and largely wasted time for the remainder of the game, making things hard for Town who had the lion’s share of possession. A late Ed Griffiths equaliser meant the team left with a point on the opening day. Thursday 3rd August: Friendly match- Chalk Lane 4 – 2 Hornsea Town. (Ben Leyland, Chris Walker) An encouraging display from Town in their latest pre-season challenge saw them fall to a late defeat after conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes. The Seasiders visited a quality Chalk Lane side with a squad of just 12. With a few faces missing and competing against a team with a full and strong squad, fitness in the dying minutes really showed. Town set up brilliantly against an impressive Chalk Lane and frustrated throughout the whole of the first half. The Seasiders took the lead early in the second before being pegged back soon after. With 80 minutes on the clock the scores were 2-2 but tired legs were showing and Chalk continued to push, eventually sealing victory with two late goals. All the other preseason friendlies were wins :- Easington ( 8-0), Hornsea Town 2nds (13-0),  Beverley Town Reserves (2-0),  Barton Town Reserves (5-0).   The upcoming league fixtures are: Saturday 26th August v Crown home, 2.30 pm.  Tuesday 29th August, Beverley Town, home, 6.30 pm.
