After reaching the semi finals of the Senior Country Cup Town had to wait two weeks to secure promotion to the Humber Premier League after their match with Brandesburton was postponed. Manager Ged Stead feels that the squad has been strengthened this year and that the team are benefitting from a season in a lower division where they have rediscovered the winning habit. Saturday 4th Feb: Senior Country Cup Quarter Finals- Hornsea Town 2 – 1 Dunnington FC. Goals – Jez Longley (Sponsored by Stride Joinery) Morgan McKenzie (Sponsored by Drain Jetting Services) Hornsea head through to the semi finals after a close yet convincing victory against a good Dunnington side. Town trailed 1-0 early on when they were caught napping at a corner but the majority of the chances from there fell to Hornsea. A failure to take clear cut opportunities was the only real downside as the lads got back to winning ways. Saturday 18th February: Humber Prem 1- Hornsea Town 3 – 2 Driffield EI. Simon Taylor,Jez Longley Jordan Holmes (all pictured ) The lads secured promotion back to the HPL at the first attempt after a 3-2 win against a combative Driffield side ensured a top 2 finish and sent them back to the top of the table. After going 2-0 up early on it looked as though a convincing win may be on the cards but some poor decision making allowed Driffield back into the game. After some great build up play, Jordan Holmes fired one into the top corner late in the first half which ultimately secured victory for the Seasiders. Reserves review: Queens County 11 Hornsea Town Res 1 It was a heavy defeat away to top of the league Queens County for the reserves. Missing many regulars the lads were always up against it. A Trevor Brooks penalty being the only consolation in a week to forget for the reserves. Everyone is invited to take part in the Keith Gorton Memorial Trophy Am Am Golf Tournament at Hornsea Golf Club on 21 April. A fee of £100 per team or £25 per person includes a meal in the clubhouse afterwards.
