Cricket – back soon

Since my last bulletin there are a number of things that have been finalised for this season, so here goes: Playing We will be fielding 2 Adult Saturday teams this season in the York and District Senior League, along with midweek/Sunday morning fixtures for Junior sides – from under 9s to 15s. James Vickerton has worked hard to have the club invited to join the Bridlington Evening League. A draft set of fixtures received indicates that matches will be on Thursday evenings running from 4th May to mid-August. Please let James know of your availability. Juniors Thanks to Adam Newington and Pete Marson for their commitment to running and coaching the club’s junior sides. The club will be playing regular league fixtures at U15s and U11s along with development games at other age groups. Adults Over the past month The indoor nets have been well received. Here is the schedule of sessions remaining. Friday 24 th March – Sirius Academy, Hull – 7.00-9.00 pm Friday 31st March – Sirius Academy, Hull – 7.00-9.00 pm Friday 7 th April – Sirius Academy, Hull – 7.00-9.00 pm Weather permitting Outdoor Nets will commence on Tuesday 11th April at Hollis Recreation Ground from 6.00pm. For those wishing to have additional sessions on Fridays, I’m sure that can be accommodated. All standards of player would be most welcome to attend. Please try to attend whenever possible, the more attendees the better. Playing Kit The Club have agreed arrangements with Drury Sports (Driffield) for them to supply Gray Nicholls teamwear and leisurewear for the upcoming season. Senior players will be provided with a new club shirt courtesy of sponsors Whiteheads Fish & Chips. Geoff Whitehead continues to be a fantastic supporter of the club and of local sport in general. Additional teamwear and leisurewear from the Hornsea CC Gray Nicholls range can be ordered via Drury Sports website teamwear menu page – Hornsea CC http://www.drurysports.com/cat.php?id=105 League Season The league season starts slightly later this year: 1st x1 – Saturday 22nd April – home to Beverley 2nd xi – Saturday 29th April – away to North Ferriby Pre-season games The club has managed to secure a pre-season friendly for both Saturday teams: 1st xi – Sunday 16th April (Easter Sunday) – away to Driffield 2nd Xi 2nd xi – Sunday 23rd April – home to Cherry Burton Please try to make yourself available. Social events Race Night – Thursday 6th April at the New Inn from 7.30pm After the success of last year’s event, plans have been finalised by the Social Committee for an informal race night with a change of venue to the New Inn as there’ll be additional floor space. Tickets will be £10 per head to include food. Please let Mark Catley or Bod know if you intend attending as this will assist with numbers for catering. Golf – it is hoped to repeat this event during the 2nd half of the season. Date for your diary – Club Dinner has been confirmed for Friday 10th November at Hornsea Golf Club. NatWest Cricket Force Day – Saturday 8th April from 9:00 am As the league season approaches there is an opportunity to assist ground-staff in getting ready for the season, tasks required include: artificial nets repair, assemble covers (replacements for the vandalised covers have been obtained), sightscreens and mobile net, paint and repair scorebox(es), paint and repair external boundary posts, clean up advertising boards. A skip has been purchased for the day. Bring your own tools if possible! Please assist – reward of bacon sarnies, a free t-shirt, but mainly job satisfaction! Stay later for the added incentive of the Bar opening from 1 pm. Century Club There are a few numbers available in our very popular Century Club Draw. For a cost of £25 per year, or £2 per month if you pay by standing order, you will be entered into a monthly draw with 3 prizes of £50, £25 and £10. That is 12 chances to double your money and a further 12 chances to get your money back. It has even been known for some people to win more than one prize in a year. Communication – Team app In order to ease communication between captains / players / members the club has set up an app. It is designed specifically for sports clubs so that members can be made aware of forthcoming events, news items, fixtures etc. It should reduce the phoning around that captains have to do, so the more people that become members the better.
