However, this is only the first step towards the possibility of gaining national selection”. Indoor Bowls is a popular sport played at local, county, national and international level including at the Commonwealth Games.  Hornsea Indoor Bowls Club has a proud history of producing a number of top level players whose images now adorn the club’s Hall of Fame wall.  Anyone interested in trying the game for themselves can book four free lessons by calling the club on 537776.     Dates for your diary

Promenade Bowls Club

Were you there?  At our Barefoot bowling event 49 people came and tried their hand, and their feet, on our green.  It was a great success and we hope to do it again next year.   Our thanks to the Floral Hall who stayed open and provided refreshments during the evening. Saturday 20th August started out wet and the forecast was not good for the rest of the day for our Club Finals.  Apart from losing one gazebo (thanks to the three passing strangers who came to our aid), all finals were run on time and this year there were 7 different winners.  Mick Maddison won the Club Championship again.  My thanks to all Club members who helped in any way to make the day a success. Thursday, 1st September the Ladies played the Gentlemen and for the first time in 3 years the Gentlemen won, much to the annoyance of the Ladies.  Still there is always next year. The green is now closed for the winter ready for the repair work to be completed.  This includes having the ends raised, scarifying, top dressing and seeding.  The new watering system has really helped to improve the green this year and we hope to see even more improvement next year. Our AGM was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday, 6th October. If you wish to find out more about the Club please give Neville Sansome a call on 01482750550. This year our friendly match against Hornsea Indoor Bowling Club members was played indoors and we were well and truly thrashed with all our rinks losing.  More indoor practice needed. During the winter our Club members meet on a Wednesday morning at the Indoor Bowling Club on Atwick Road.  We have a friendly roll up from 9.30 until 10.30am and then adjourn for coffee.  Please come and join us. Our Ceilidh will be held at the Hornsea Indoor Bowling Club on Atwick Road on Saturday 3rd December with food, live music and a very good caller.  Tickets available from the Indoor Club’s Reception.   October Firstly, a reminder that the Club’s first members’ dinner and presentation of trophies evening will be held on Saturday, 1st October starting at 8.00 pm. After a two course dinner there will be trophy presentations followed by a performance from the very talented teenager Emily Drewery. If you missed Emily’s performance at the recent Tres Amici evening this is your chance to see a star of the future. Tickets are priced at £12.50, so ensure that you book your tickets now. The winter leagues 2016-17 have now started with many leagues now full but there are vacancies in some leagues as follows: Monday 10.30 – Open Triples, 2.30 Open Pairs. The Club’s lottery has now reverted to being drawn weekly every Thursday evening about 9.30 pm and with the next prize in the region of £280.00 it is well worth entering for just £1. Enter 5 numbers on the form and the winners will be any person who has 3 numbers matching the numbers drawn. The Club’s next quiz evening will be held on Tuesday, September 25th, starting at 8.30 pm. And finally a date for your diary – the Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 8th November at 7.00 pm and it is hoped that as many members as possible will attend. HORNSEA OUTDOOR BOWLING CLUB Saturday 17th September was the end of the club’s season. The final event was the annual match between the Club Captain’s team versus President’s team. The weather was poor but this did not stop the teams enjoying a well fought match ending with the captain’s team winning 2 rinks to the President’s 1. The President’s team did however win the aggregate so an honourable draw was declared. After the game the season end was celebrated with an excellent meal provided once again by the ladies. The Club has had an enjoyable season but with little success, most teams finishing around mid table, but the Gents evening league team did manage to scrape into second place, gaining promotion. The social events have been well attended and thoroughly enjoyed so all that is left is to thank all members for their contribution to the season and remind them that the annual presentation dinner is on Saturday the 22nd of October at the Indoor Bowling Club.
