Formula 24 Update

A group of Year 9 students have been involved in Project Blyth this year which is a STEM project sponsored by the Greenpower Trust to encourage young people to look at engineering as a potential future career.  Students have been busy building and designing an electric car that will be raced in the centre of Hull on 16th July this year, competing against other secondary schools in the Humber region within the Formula 24 class of the project. At HSLC we have been overwhelmed by the level of local community support for this project in terms of sponsorship.  Our car is almost ready for the test race later this month and last week we were also given the opportunity to showcase our car at the national conference for the Careers & Enterprise Company at the Sheffield Arena – we were the only school invited to do this!   6th Form – Family 5Km Fun Run: With the support from Hornsea Rotary Club, a group of 6th Form students and staff organised a community family Fun Run event on Sunday 23rd April.  The event was a great success with over 60 runners taking part in the 5K run that lapped the school playing fields and Hall Garth Park twice!  The event raised just over £600 for the 6th Form Cambodia fundraising appeal.  The funds will help to buy resources to support a deprived village in Cambodia that the students will be visiting and undertaking volunteering work later in the summer.
