Adventurous youngsters from ages 7 to 12 are needed for Hornsea Sailing Club’s ‘Optimist Sail Training Scheme 2015’. The training is aimed at all sailors; from total beginners to those wanting to improve their skills, including racing.
Beginner sessions will generally run on Saturday mornings for 90 minutes. After these courses successful sailors are welcome to join the ‘Pirate Adventure’ sessions in the afternoon with games and activities to improve their skills. All training is undertaken in one of the club’s six International Optimist dinghies, specifically designed to be sailed singlehandedly by children up to the age of 14/15. Children with their own boats are also welcome. All training is free. However the club does expect each participant to join the Club as a family member (currently £30 – which includes parents and or carers and all siblings under 18). A parent or nominated carer must accompany each candidate with opportunities to accompany the course on the water, learn to sail themselves or to drive the safety boat.
