Double National Champs!

Four girls from Hornsea & District Indoor Bowls Club have added to their title of National English Indoor Bowls Association (EIBA) Ladies Fours Champions by winning the British Isles Women’s Indoor Bowls Clubs (BIWIBC) Ladies Fours Championships in Paisley. The team consisting of Lydia Cutmore, Holly Baxter, Katy Baxter and Dani Martinson brought home The Irish Association Trophy after three days of tough competition. The ladies won the right to represent England in the ladies fours competition at this prestigious event when they won the EIBA National Fours Championship last year. They had a preliminary round match against Northern Ireland where they had a convincing 25-10 win. Their semi-final saw them pull back from being 5 down to a 22-18 win in a very tight game against the talented Channel Islands team. In the final, they faced Wales who had narrowly beaten Scotland earlier in the week to get through. The girls played a solid game winning by another convincing margin of 21-10 to take the title. This win came immediately after a successful weekend in Paisley for Katy and Dani who were members of the England ladies team in the BIWIBC International series. This involved six rinks of fours with Katy and Dani playing together. They won two of the three matches on their rink helping England to become the BIWIBC champions. Last month Katy also played in the Ladies Under 25s International Series with team mate Lydia in Nottingham, again playing against teams from Scotland, Wales and International. This time the pair had a clean sweep of wins so helping the England team to take that title too. All four girls are coached at Hornsea & District Indoor Bowls Club by Ian Paddy also from Hornsea. Holly in turn now coaches at the club. Hornsea Indoor Bowling Club are very proud of them all and at a celebration at the Club on Monday 19th March, attended by family and friends and Club members, they all thanked Ian Paddy for his coaching during their early career, and he responded by saying how proud he was of them and praised their dedication and hard work in achieving what they have done, and giving Hornsea Indoor Bowling Club such a great name in the bowling world.  Well done to all of them. A reminder that the members bowls committee AGM will take place on Tuesday, 3rd April 2018 starting at 7.00 pm and is for members only, and the agenda for the meeting is on the Club’s notice boards. On a sad note, the Club would like to send condolences to the family of Mike Wallbridge who sadly passed away in hospital on 10th March.  Mike was a popular playing member, playing several times a week until becoming ill before Christmas. It is now the business end of the Club’s leagues with the final week commencing on Monday 1st April, and there are several leagues which will go down to the last week to find the winners, and the winners of all leagues will appear in the next issue. The Club’s internal competitions are now reaching the semi-final stages with the final’s weekend scheduled for 6th and 7th April.  Again, full details in the next issue.
