The latest exhibition venue for the arts was initiated at Hornsea Indoor Bowls Club recently when the newly opened ‘Seagull Gallery’ displayed its first exhibition of paintings by local artist Phil Hargreaves from Sigglesthorne. His subjects include many sports including cycling, rugby, horse racing, golf and, not surprisingly, bowls.
Using both oil and acrylic mediums Phil has provided a variety of stunning colourful sporting images using paint, often applied with a palette knife. Phil is chairman of the Hornsea Art Society, some of whose many members will be exhibiting their work at the ‘Seagull Gallery’ in the future.
Phil, a former Head of Languages at Bridlington School, is a founder member of the Hornsea Indoor Bowls Club and was on the steering committee that made the successful application to the Lottery Fund, overseeing the building and fitting out of the Club. He played for the Yorkshire Outdoor Bowls team over a period of nine years and in 1998 was the County 2-wood Singles Champion.
In the future, regular exhibitions will be held at the new gallery, entry is free and refreshments are available.
