Coup for Floral Cinema Club

As the weather prevented many from seeing the latest John Godber film last month the Floral Cinema Club have decided to show the film again for free at 7.30pm on Wednesday 11th April From March Edition: STOP PRESS NEWS As well as being given exclusive rights to the pre-premiere showings of the John Godber film ‘The Last Laugh’ at the Floral Hall on the 28th February, one or both of the film’s producers Daniel Coll and John Danbury will be there to take part in two question and answer sessions before/after each of the two showings (Matinee at 3.00 pm and Evening at 7.30pm). Our widely acclaimed local writer Marvin Close will be hosting the Q&A sessions and inviting questions from both audiences on the day. Marvins says: “It should be a very different film night/matinee at the Floral! I’m really looking forward to hearing how they put the movie together and filmed it all around Yorkshire.”

Last Laugh

Not yet in the cinemas, the film is Yorkshire through and through. Directed by award-winning director Daniel Coll and produced by John Danbury and Daniel Coll of Visualise Films, Last Laugh was filmed around the county with an almost entire Yorkshire cast and crew. The film explores the life of Martin, a man who has failed in many areas of his life – as a screenwriter, as a son, husband and father. Most of his misery has been self-inflicted and partly brought on by his brief affair with an attractive and glamorous film agent. Last Laugh is part Withnail and I and part Billy Elliot, a story of dark into light, of discovery and revelation, but most of all a story of real life. The film is written by and starring John Godber, alongside Toyah Wilcox, Nick Figgis, Jane Thornton and Amy Thompson. Visualise Films are a Huddersfield based TV and Film production company who teamed up with John Godber just over a year ago to turn one of his stage plays into a feature film on a micro budget. The result is a great evening of fun and northern family humour. Producer John Danbury told us, “We had 15 crew, 50 actors, 150 extras, 22 locations and just 24 days to film the whole thing. We wouldn’t have been able to do that without the dedication and hard work of everyone concerned, plus the good people of Yorkshire who opened their arms and doors to make this project what it is today.” Director Daniel Coll added, “The story is really about someone who has tried to move away from his working class roots and now feels adrift between two worlds not really fitting in anywhere and who finally comes to terms with who he really is. It is a comedy that people should really associate with as it is, at its core, about family and love.” John Godber is one of the world’s best known playwrights and is an Ambassador for Beverley’s East Riding Theatre. Don’t miss these screenings of what is sure to become a Northern comedy classic. Last Laugh is at the Floral Hall, Hornsea on February 28th for a matinee performance at 3 pm (doors open 2.30 pm) and an evening showing at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm). Admission £4, carers go free. The bar is open for both showings, plus tea, coffee and ice cream.
