International recognition for local photographer

Hornsea photographer Gavin Prest of Gavin Prest Photography has gained international recognition by winning a significant award with the Guild of Professional Photographers.   Every year the Guild runs an Image of the month competition, receiving around 12,000 entries during 2015.  Each image is judged and the scores from the year are then added up to determine who wins one of the Guilds Top 10 Photographer Awards, as well as the Guilds Photographer of the Year.  This is clearly a very demanding year long process!   Many of you will know Gavin, as he is a native of Hornsea and was a successful local plumber in his former life.  He has also made a name for himself as a talented drummer, with ‘Last Resort’ as his current band.   Gavin was honoured to become the Winner in the ‘People category’, runner up in the ‘Open’ category, his image came second in the Image of the year Fashion and Beauty category. These awards together made him the Winner of the ‘Overall All-Round Photographer of the Year’ – a remarkable achievement when one considers the number and standard of the entries.   The Awards were presented to Gavin at the Guilds Award night at Crewe Hall, a stunning Jacobean Mansion in Cheshire, on Saturday the 6th February 2016. Steve Thirsk (Director of the Guild) said that he is “both proud and delighted that Gavin has achieved this recognition after 12 months of submitting the highest quality images. The Guild is renowned for having very demanding standards when judging photographic competitions. The judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photographic back grounds, so Gavin quite rightly should be delighted with his extraordinary achievement.”   Steve Thirsk is also very pleased to announce and welcome Gavin to the panel for this year as a judge and panel member.   Members of the Guild are committed to achieving the highest standards of professionalism and to a journey of continuing professional development.  The Guild website (www.photoguild.co.uk) lists members throughout the country who offer this commitment, along with advice on how to choose a photographer that will meet your needs.   Gavin’s work can be found with details about his photography at www.gavinprestphotography.co.uk www.gavinprestfineart.co.uk www.gavinprestphotographyworkshops.co.uk .
