A COMMUNITY ‘Picnic in the Park’ is to be held on Sunday 12th June as part of Hornsea’s celebrations to mark Queen Elizabeth’s ‘official’ ninetieth birthday. The event, to which everyone is invited, is scheduled to start at noon in Hall Garth Park and continue through to about 3 pm.
Residents and visitors are asked, where possible, to bring their own picnics but with a ‘bit extra’ that can be shared with others who may not be fully aware of what is planned and have arrived unprepared. The event has the support of Hornsea Town Council and other organisations in the town and it is hoped that as many people as possible will come along and join in the fun.
Other similar events to mark this joyous occasion are taking place in other locations in the town and it is hoped that residents and visitors can make their own plans to ‘call in’ at all the venues and help to make this a birthday to remember.
Councillor Brian Morgan said, “The council is helping to co-ordinate some of the activities on the day but we really want it to be something that the whole community can be involved in and perhaps contribute in some way. We are at an early stage in the preparations but there have already been marvellous messages of support for the event from other organisations in Hornsea who are keen to be involved. It is, though, something for everyone of all ages to contribute to and so needs people to come along, bring a picnic, and hopefully share it with others, so as to make it a truly memorable event for the town. Any displays of a patriotic flavour will help add colour to the occasion.”
He added, “Just a gentle reminder that for the enjoyment of everyone all alcoholic drinks are prohibited in the park.”
