NEW BEGINNINGS AT HORNSEA MUSEUM
During the closed winter months our fantastic volunteers have dusted, painted, dug, washed, banked, starched, polished, pruned, hoovered, oiled, drilled, labelled, photographed, catalogued and generally worked very hard. Displays have been changed and a skip filled. There has still been time for copious amounts of tea and coffee, and the occasional chocolate biscuit. Schools have visited and been glowered at by Mrs Grimm, soaked by Mrs Scrubbit and cross-questioned by the kitchen cook. They must enjoy it as they keep coming back. On Saturday guitar players have joined the Tuesday knitters and Thursday rag ruggers.
After all this work by the volunteers the Museum will be ready for opening on Saturday March 19th. The museum will be open from 10 to 4 from Monday to Saturday and from 1 to 4 on Sunday. The main area of activity has been the newly completed ‘Whitedale’ building, which has been built in the Museum grounds using funding from the Holderness Coast Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG).
New Model Railway
We hope that visitors to the Museum will enjoy the working model railway of Hornsea Town Station as it was before closure in 1964, the fishing and railway memorabilia, and exhibits showing the development of Hornsea as a seaside resort. The photographs show some of the displays that have been put together.
An official opening of the new building is being planned for later in the year, more details to follow.
The Militaria room has been enhanced and there is a new display in the Burns’ family corridor. Other parts of the Museum, including the shop, have also been refurbished during the winter, so please support your local Museum!
