Good news on the buses – Hornsea services to stay as they are

Back in January we reported on East Riding Council’s decisions to cut the financial support it provides for certain bus services, with a particular focus on Hornsea. Our local service in the firing line was the 246 to Beverley and the removal of the Council’s subsidies could have meant losing around half its journeys. However bus operator EYMS has now published its service revisions to take account of those Council cuts coming into effect in April 2017, and the 246 does not feature. This means EYMS has decided to continue with the current timetable – at least for now – and run it as a commercial operation.
Hornsea Parish Transport Champion John Rodgers commented, “This is great news and a credit both to EYMS and to the many local people who objected to the Council’s plans when they were first announced last summer. My own experience of travelling on the 246 is that it continues to be well used, but now that it is being run as a fully commercial operation the old adage ‘Use it or lose it’ is even more relevant.”
